ARCTIC | Review

After a tragic plane crash, a man must traverse the Arctic to survive the brutal elements and find his way home. I've been looking forward to this movie since I saw the trailer and saw Mads Mikkelsen playing as the main role, and it was very well done. Joe Penna both wrote and directed, and did a great job executing it. Mads Mikkelsen was fantastic as well, giving a gripping performance. Having a film that takes place in the brutal snow and a man fighting against the elements, I've seen a lot of comparisons to "The Revenant" and I personally disagree. This is a raw survival film, nothing more, nothing less. The pacing of this film is one of my only issues with it. I feel that the average movie goer would get bored very easily, but I enjoyed it. Another thing was how often it would 'Cut to Black'. Whenever a tense or built up moment would happen, it would Cut to Black and then transition to the next scene. This trope was done too many times and was very noticeable to the point that it takes you out of the movie. Overall, I really enjoyed this film and am looking forward to whatever Joe Penna does next.
I'll give Arctic a 4/5.
